Gary DeFrange, 2009 Citizen of The Year
On November 13, 2009, The Winter Park-Fraser Valley Chamber of Commerce named Gary DeFrange, President and COO of Winter Park Resort, the 2009 Citizen of the Year.
The honor, awarded annually to a citizen exhibiting exemplary dedication to community service, was presented to DeFrange at a dinner ceremony at Deno’s Mountain Bistro. “Given his involvement in, and commitment to this community, Gary is most deserving of the Citizen of the Year award, “ said Ron Nelson, Board President of the Grand Foundation and the 2008 Citizen of the Year. “Gary is known for infusing our local flavor and maintaining the character of Winter Park Resort, and balancing his corporate duties with what’s best for our community.”
“I am humbled by this great honor,” said DeFrange. “So many of our friends and neighbors work hard for this community; I just want to do my part to better the place in which I love to live and work.” CLICK HERE for full story.
2009 Pioneer Award Presented to Dwight and Jean Miller
The Winter Park-Fraser Valley Chamber of Commerce is honored to name Dwight and Jean Miller as the Pioneer Award recipients. The Millers helped to establish our tourism industry in Winter Park and the Fraser Valley. Their dedication to building a strong community is still evident today in our public schools and transportation system.

Holiday Cheer for All- Shop Locally
It is that time of year when we are all looking to share some cheer with family and friends. Economic recovery has been slow to reach our Valley, thus now more than ever, we need to reach out and support the community. Why not help each other out by doing our holiday shopping locally? We know, it is an old, but not tired message; we need to consider keeping our dollars local. We can help each other by spending our hard earned dollars right here at home.
Skis, snowboards, outerwear, TVs, appliances, new furniture, jewelry, hip sweaters and hoodies can all be found at reasonable prices right in our own neighborhood. So get out there, visit with your fellow business-owners and shop until you drop. Gift certificates for services like massages or meals are always a winner with a loved one. The time you save driving over the hill, and money you save on gas will provide opportunity to enjoy a lovely meal at one of our fabulous eateries!
Don't forget that in these hard times our local non-profits are not only more challenged with raising funds, but are also seeing more demand for their services. Please consider a gift of cash or volunteer time to one of the many deserving charitable organizations this holiday season.
