"Adventure Member! Who in the world is that?" is a spin-off of "I Spy 1973." It's a new guessing game of "Who's Who" in the Chamber membership.  All pictures are of current Chamber members who love adventure.  The first person to guess at least 9 out of 12 pictures correctly in the 2009 newsletters, will win a $50.00 gift certificate at the end of the year.

Who are the two January "Adventure Members" in the photo and what are their businesses?"

Would you like to be an "Adventure Member?" Please submit your adventure picture to mchavez@playwinterpark.com.

Changes for a New Year by Catherine Ross

The holiday weeks seem to have brought the gift of many visitors to the Valley. It was good to see lines at the grocery store and traffic backed up after such a quiet start to the winter season. Here at the Chamber we are taking action to keep the stream of guests coming even through what some feel could be a rocky economic time.

By now you have all received mailings from the Chamber office regarding the new “Welcome Back” campaign. In an effort to draw attention to the businesses in Winter Park & The Fraser Valley we will be spending marketing reserve dollars on a targeted marketing/sales campaign. It is our hope that the campaign stimulates business from guests and locals alike. Basically folks will receive “key codes” that they enter in a special website to try to win prizes. The Grand Prize is $10,000. People get the first key in the mail or by coming by the Visitor Center. They get additional codes whenever they present receipts from local businesses at the Visitor Center. So the more often you purchase products and services in the Valley the better your chances of winning! A full advertising campaign is set to launch January 12. See the Marketing Section of this newsletter for more information.

The Chamber Board is being sensitive about your bottom line and has decided not to raise dues for 2009. We have created a contest for you also. Pay your dues in January and you will be entered in a drawing to win a Denver Getaway. Call Maria or Danielle if you missed the info in your annual invoice.

A new computer kiosk is up and running in the Visitor Center. We are serving our guests better by providing access to the membership through the Chamber website. Make sure your listing is up to date with any special offers so that the guests can get to you sooner.

Mary Jane’s Birthday Bash is back with a new event that everyone can come out and enjoy. The First Annual Mary Jane Snowshoe Trek will take place January 24. It is a fund raiser for the Fraser Creative Learning Center. No timing, hardly any hills- just a great hike along the Fraser River Trail from the Fraser Visitor Center to Hideaway Park. Proceeds benefit the Fraser Creative Learning Center. Click here to register and don't forget to wear your Mary Jane costume!

Speaking of snowshoeing, we are hosting snowshoe hikes from Hideaway Park all winter. Join us for a night hike or an interpretative hike with a wildlife biologist.

And last but of course not least - HIDEAWAY PARK!! The park is fully operational with a great free sledding hill, fabulous restrooms and ongoing activities. Thanks to the Winter Park Town Council and staff for this great amenity!

News from the Front Line by Kristyna Nedele

Happy New Year!  Hope everyone had a great holiday week. The New Years Eve Celebration in Hideaway Park was a great turnout! Our free hot chocolate and smore’s were popular during the New Year’s Celebration before the fireworks stunned the crowd. Hideaway Park had over 500 guests to enjoy the night together.

We would like to thank: Names & Numbers, Woodspur Lodge, Beaver Village Condos, Internet Honey, Hernando's, Sushi Bar, AOR, Brown & Bigelow and Home James for all of the wonderful holiday goodies, they were delicious. We also greatly appreciated all the wonderful cards that were sent.

The new 2009 Visitor Guides will be here soon!  We'll be delivering them to your business sometime in these next few weeks.  Want to help us out? Call us to come pick up the guides for your business and bring in your rack cards for the Visitor Center. Enjoy your new year!
