Get Out the Vote! Consider Voting by Mail and Early Voting!
We all realize how important it is to get out and vote in the upcoming general election on November 4. The ballot is full and decisions will be made on the local, state and national level. It is imperative that we all speak our mind through our vote.
This year in Colorado we will get to elect a president, U.S. Senator and U.S. Congressman. We will choose a new State Representative and elect a State Senator. Do your homework and research the candidates’ stands on the issues. As difficult as it is, try to get past the ads on television and look to candidates’ websites, watch the debates and attend forums when the candidates are in town. Locally we will select two county commissioners. The Fraser and Granby District seats are open this year. All registered voters in the county vote for a representative to fill each seat. So you will choose two individuals at election time.
Of course if you are ready to vote now you may want to consider Voting by Mail (via an absentee ballot). Why vote early? Consider the ease of having your ballot in front of you at home. You are able to look through your research and not be rushed or have to rely on memory. You can find an application on-line for an Absentee Ballot. Mail it to: Grand County Clerk and Recorder P.O. Box 120, Hot Sulphur Springs, CO 80451. Make sure it is received in Hot Sulphur by November 4 to meet the deadline. You may also pick up an absentee ballot at the courthouse beginning October 8. Remember you don’t have to be absent to vote by mail.
If you really like to go into the voting booth but want to be sure your vote is cast, consider early voting at the courthouse in Hot Sulphur Springs. Bring your ID and head over starting Octpber 20. The last date to early vote is October 31.
However or wherever you choose to vote be sure you get it done. For the latest and greatest information go to www.co.grand.co.us or call the Election Office at 725-3347.

Chamber Testimonial From Winter Park Chateau
"We just wanted to drop you a note and thank you so much for all your support in getting our new business up and running. We have tried a number of marketing venues, but I must say, The Winter Park-Fraser Valley Chamber has been our most successful avenue yet.
The Chambers' proactive stance on networking and the elaborate web site has been our most successful means of exposure yet. I can contribute a number of lodging bookings directly with my link on your web site. I am hoping to expand my advertising budget and target my dollars and allocate them to you and your marketing distribution network. Thanks again for helping us to get started."
Yours Truly,
Greg and Laura Lewis | Winter Park Chateau B&B

Sales Council Update
by Sales Director Cindy Harder | sales@playwinterpark.com | 970-726-4221
On September 23, many of you attended the meeting featuring Ralf Garrison of the MTRiP and Advisory Group hosted by the Sales Council at Beaver Village Condominiums. MTRiP is a statistic gathering program that many of our lodging partners participate in as a way to measure our rate and occupancy within our destination and compared to other “like” ski destinations. This service has been provided through the Sales Council funding over the past several years and provides us with information such as economic consumer confidence measures, travel trends, and historical data on lodging patterns.
While the overall future economic picture may look bleak from many perspectives, Ralf’s presentation was informative and educational. As an overall ski destination we performed in 2007-2008 on average; looking ahead in 2008-2009 we are actually forecasting slightly ahead of the curve. We are in a favorable location for travel (close to Denver) for the destination traveler and offer a ski product (lifts, lodging, rentals) that is more affordable than some destinations. However, we are reminded nothing is certain in these uncertain times and leisure travel may be slow this year.
What I took away from the meeting, in an optimistic measure, is that skiers are passionate about their sport and believe they can not live without it! That said of the hierarchy of things we must have in life: food, place to live, clothing, to skiers that includes skiing.
The information presented by MTRiP is proprietary to those who participate and so, cannot be shared as a public document. However, if you would like to learn more please contact us at the Chamber and we will help answer questions or make an appointment to visit you!
As always, thank you to the Sales Council and members of the chamber that contribute by supporting and collecting the voluntary 1% of operated business revenue.
