"I Spy 1973"

"I Spy 1973" is a guessing game of "Who's Who" in 1973.  All pictures are of long-time locals currently living in the Fraser Valley who are, or have been, active in our Chamber and community.  The first person to guess at least 9 out of 12 pictures correctly in the 2008 newsletters, will win $35.00 at the end of the year.

BUSY month preparing for events in August!

If you are interested in being a part of the 16th Annual Salute to American Veterans Rally Weekend August 15-17, we are looking for people to be in the Veterans Rally Parade and volunteers to man the Memorial Wall in Fraser.  Contact Tamara Davis at tdavis@playwinterpark.com for more information.

This Thursday is the Concrete Rodeo Skate Park Competition in Hideaway Park from 11am-3pm.  This is also the last weekend of the 2008 Parade of Homes.

We hope to see you at Fraser River Days this weekend. It kicks-off at the Fraser Visitor Center Friday, August 8, with drumming from the American Indian Performers from 5-7pm.  They will also be at the Fraser Ponds all weekend doing live performances and story telling.  Come to the "Ike" Statue Celebration at 10am on Saturday at the ponds and hear them do a "honor song" for the blessing of the statue. Click Here for the entire event schedule in Winter Park & Fraser.

Thank you for your support on these events!

by Joyce Burford

So far, I have been pleased with the results of this year's marketing and public relations efforts.  After a slow start in June mostly due to the winter that wouldn't let go, we have seen record numbers of people at our events throughout the summer.  More visitor guides have been distributed this year than any previous year ever.  And rising gas prices have seemed to help our area in terms of visitors more than hurt it, due to our close proximity to Denver.   Not every sector in our towns have seen success, however.  In an uncertain economy, people have tended to cut back in certain areas of spending, especially retail.   But, all in all, not a bad summer given the current climate.   Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns @ jburford@playwinterpark.com.

Sales Director for Sales Council Update

Cindy and Sara have been busy this month laying a foundation for Community Promotions and Group Leads. Sue Neumann and Ansley Ludwig from Central Reservations have been integral partners and we thank them for their support and hard work! We now have a partnering link program for Community sales programs and ticketed events that link the WPFVCC website and the Winter Park Central Reservations Lodging page. Examples include: Jazz Festival and Hawg Festival.

In addition, we have established a group lead directive between the chamber and central reservations. Group leads received are shared directly with the membership for personal attention and follow up. The lead list is small right now, 1 or 2 leads a week; however, we will be working to grow that number. Lodging and ski rentals are primarily where a group will start their search. We first send them a complete Visitors Guide and the Group Manual CD from the chamber then the lead request is forwarded to the membership segment as requested by the group.

Our destination, town and resort, are gearing up to welcome the National Ski Council Federation August 21-24. This is a big deal for Winter Park as we were chosen over two other destinations. The NSCF is attending Winter Park for their annual meeting to discuss ski industry, trends and the support of their ski clubs! Up to 75 delegates of the Ski Club business will be in attendance. We invite you all to be involved by dropping off flyers advertising your business with discounts and deals. We will add them to the registration packets. These guests will have "credentials" that identify them and we encourage you to say "hi" and "welcome"!

Thank you to the members of the Sales Council who make the difference by voluntarily collecting and submitting 1% of their revenue. If you are not involved and want to be, please contact me and we can set up a review of the program! Your individual business can and does make a difference in our community!
