Community Wildfire Protection Plan in Final Stages

Several local entities in the Fraser Valley have joined forces to work with Anchor Point Group LLC to develop a Community Wildfire Protection Plan. The plan will identify areas of concern, mitigation suggestions as well as proposed fire evacuation procedures. This document will be used by private and public agencies to decide on actions to protect our assets if a forest fire does affect our valley.

A public meeting will be held November 15 at 6:00 PM at Winter Park Town Hall. You are encouraged to see the plan and comment. Please click here for the information flyer.

Bark Beetle Mitigation Projects

The Forest Service continues to make progress on a number of bark beetle mitigation projects. This winter the mitigation work and logging activities will continue in the area around Vasquez Creek, Elk Creek, and St. Louis Creek Roads. Log hauling is expected to occur on these roads as well as surrounding roads. As logging work progresses there is expected to be some impact to recreation in the area and so users should be cautious. Winter recreationists can obtain the latest information about logging activities in this area by calling the Sulphur Ranger District office at 970-887-4100, e-mailing jksimmons@fs.fed.us or checking our website at
http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/arnf/conditions/upperfraserclosures".

The NBS IS COMING!!!
December 1-8, 2007

The National Brotherhood of Skiers is coming to Winter Park December 1-8, 2007.  This Early Season Warm Up will be their best ever!!  They will be bringing over 700 participants this week from across the country!!

There are several ways to work with them:

    1. Discount coupon. They are asking for 20% off for NBS members while they are in town.

    2. Raffle prizes. They raise $$ for their youth programs and raffle them off on Sunday night’s party. They have requested gift certificates for dinner for two, gift items, etc.
