September- Planning and Budgets
This is the time of year that the Chamber staff is very busy evaluating the accomplishments of 2007 and planning for 2008. We have several retreats planned with committees and boards. The groups include Marketing Council, Special Events Committee, Winter Park Music Inc., Sales Council and Membership Committee. The Chamber Board has met to give the committees general direction for 2008. An annual report will be produced for distribution at the end of the year. In order to serve the community well we are requesting your input before work plans are set for 2008. We need to know what helps your business and what you do not feel is productive. Please contact a Board or staff member listed in this newsletter and help us serve you better. My contact information is: cross@playwinterpark.com or 726-4221 ext. 201.

News from the Front Line by Tamara Davis First I would like to send a big thank you and good luck to Valarie Wise who has left the Chamber of Commerce. You will be missed dearly. Also a big thank you to Ryan and Kristin for their hard work over the summer. If school didnt come first I would have persuaded you both to stay longer. Now for the off season business... BRING YOUR BROCHURES IN! Kristyna and T will be focusing on the brochure racks now that the big events are done and will be calling. Dont be afraid to give us a good supply for the winter season so they can be displayed year round. Please give us a call to alert us when your last day will be for the summer season. We want to keep the guests in September busy with fun things to do. We have sent over 1000 brochures this month to inquiries around the world. The Whats Going On is still being done each week so please email us when you have an event that needs to go on there. _____________________________________________ CRAIGSTOCK - Benefit for Craig Thomason September 22 & 23

Wholesaler FAM Tour - August 28-31, 2007 by Ralf Garrison
Winter Park & The Fraser Valley Chambers Sales Council and Winter Park Resort partnered to organize a familiarization trip for key wholesalers this past week. The FAM was very successful and we hope it will bring more business to Winter Park and the Fraser Valley this winter as well as year around. The agents commented that it was the first time they had attended a FAM that had such a great partnership with the resort and the community. They were very impressed and learned a lot about Winter Park.
Thank you to our sponsors: Alpine Resort Properties, Beaver Village, Beaver Village Condominiums, Best Western Alpenglo Lodge, Copper Creek Square, Destinations West, Grand County Tourism Bureau, Home James, Iron Horse Resort, Mad Adventures, Ski Broker, Vintage, Winter Park Mountain Lodge and Winter Park Resort. Without your support this FAM would not have been possible.
While the overall occupancy in Winter Park continues to lag that of other destinations, it's pacing, year-over-year, is continuing to grow, so just as in our end of winter season summary for 06-07, it appears that you are "gaining on it...". In fact, while it is admittedly quite early, your forward looking 6 months are showing strong increases over previous months, and your 6 month total is higher than any other destination! For the full report please click here.
For more information on the Sales Council please contact me at 970.726.4221 x 207 or 970.509.0059 cell or hlopez@playwinterpark.com.

Summer Season Wrap-Up by Special Events Project Manager, Gina Hallisey Winter Park & The Fraser Valley had it all this summer! If you were one of the many thousands of locals and visitors who enjoyed the summer events, thanks for sharing the experience with us. As Mountain Bike Capital USA™, of course we had lots of that going on all summer, but once the first event - Run for Independence - got us going in June we were literally off and running... Fourth of July was a bang out at the Fraser Sports Complex!
We had great (actually awesome) music all summer from well known artists who hit the main stage at Hideaway Park. Music lovers enjoyed Grand County Blues Society "Blues from the Top", the Winter Park Folkfest and the ever popular Winter Park Jazz Festival PLUS lots more music at Fraser Tuesday Picnic in the Park and Bluegrass Thursdays at Hideaway Park. We were inspired by the amazing talent of the Plein Air artists during Arts Week and had fun checking out the numerous artisans and craftsman at the Alpine ArtAffair and Colorado Craft Fair. We learned how to be green and about the environment, how to fly fish, raised money for the River and saw a great Lumberjack Show at Fraser River Days.
We saw 24 (that's right - 24!) beautiful homes at the Grand County Parade of Homes - it took two weekends to see them all! We were humbled at the sacrifices so many have made for our freedom and proud to be an American at the Salute to American Veteran's Rally in August. Seeing over 10,000 visitors on motorcycles was something, the Veteran's Parade on Highway 40 in downtown Winter Park was one of the best ever, the travelling Vietnam Wall was amazing and the fly overs during the Veteran's Remembrance Ceremony were so cool. A BIG THANK YOU once again to all the summer event sponsors, volunteers and local support including my special events partner Michael Stovall for having lots of patience during my learning curve! We look forward to working with everyone again and be sure to watch for 2008 Special Event info coming this fall. Plan now to participate in 2008! _______________________________________________
